Consecutive interpretation is the most common type of interpretation and is the easiest service to arrange. In consecutive interpretation, the interpreter speaks after the source-language speaker has finished speaking; the speech may be divided into sections in which the speaker completes his/her statement and the interpreter begins to interpret after the statement is completed. Consecutive interpretation requires the interpreter to listen, comprehend, translate, and reproduce the original message after the speaker or signer pauses.
Consecutive interpretation does not require any technical equipment and in most situations a single interpreter is all that is needed. However, exceptional linguistic and interpersonal skills are the hallmark of consecutive interpreters, allowing for an uninterrupted, smooth flow of dialogue in both languages.
